Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers:
a. demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations.
b. collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation.
c. communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats.
d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.
My artifact for this standard is The Yellow Team website that I created for my team.
The teachers submitted a biography about themselves to help in creating an informational page about the team teachers.
Every month two students are chosen to be honored at school and on the website. I take their pictures and post it on the page.
A team supply list is prominently linked to on the front page so that at the beginning of the year, the parents can easily find this information.
The "meat" of the site is on the notes page. There are many resources available to the students here including study guides, audio versions of the reading, PDFs with type-able regions, PowerPoints converted to Flash and project guidelines.
Some pages on the site that have been "abandoned" are the teacher homework pages. We now post our homework on Progress Book and our previous pages homework pages just redirect to ProgressBook.
I chose my team website as my artifact because it demonstrates the use of many different forms of technology. The webpage is hosted on our network which gave me experience with creating websites in that format. Previously, I had only had experience with creating websites on hosted sites. I started off using FrontPage for my web design but have since moved to DreamWeaver. For various materials included on the website, I have used many forms of technology: digital camera, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, AuthorPoint Lite and embedding audio code. This corresponds with Indicator A, especially with the ability to transfer current knowledge to new technologies and situations.
One of the pages on the website that I have developed much more fully this year is a “Notes” page. This page is updated regularly. New resources are added, and units covered are taken away. There are several resources that stay all year for activities that are used on a regular basis. For example, in language arts, we give a weekly editing assignment. We have four students who receive scribing services. Part of their accommodations is to have access to computers for typing. The editing assignments have been converted to PDF with editable fields so that the students can type the corrected sentence instead of writing it. Review notes, team resources, PowerPoints converted to Flash, audio versions of the literature stories and other applicable materials are available on this page. By providing parents and students many resources, digital tools are being used to support student success and innovation and to communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students and parents. (Indicator B & C)
Although the team website isn't the only way our team communicates with parents and students, I think it is a good demonstration of pulling together technological resources to meet the needs of teachers, parents and students.
